We Need Your Mugs!

No tea cups, no chips, just regular mugs in return for a free cuppa.

We Need Your Mugs! is an ongoing service strategy that I designed and implemented whilst working as Assistant Venue Manager at Union Chapel - one of London’s favorite music venues as voted by Timeout readers.

Launched in 2011, the system of crowd-sourcing mugs has dramatically reduce the amount of disposable cups used in the venue during concerts and events, saving approximately £3000 each year, as well as providing an authentic opportunity for visitor engagement.

Most people have at least one mug in their cupboard they won’t miss, and everyone prefers drinking tea from a proper mug especially when it’s free. Union Chapel’s crowd-sourced mug collection now provides a sustainable cost-free mug stock for the venue, as well as social media content and a physical way for people to make an emotional connection with the venue.
